About this event
The Foundation announced the April 3 to 4, 2027 dates for the Congo Square Rhythms Festival in Armstrong Park on its official site, in the same notice that paused the Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival. The festival celebrates Congo Square in the Tremé, where enslaved African people gathered on Sunday afternoons to practise their ancestral traditions, and showcases the music, food and dance that grew from that legacy. The Foundation states that its community festivals, like this one, are completely free and open to the public.

Walk the ground with a guide
The festival is free and held in Congo Square itself. This small-group Tremé walking tour stops in the square and tells the story the festival is built on: the Sunday gatherings of enslaved African people that seeded so much of the city's music.
