The area
East of the Quarter across Esplanade Avenue, the Marigny and the Bywater trade polish for character: Creole cottages in strong colours, corner bars, and Frenchmen Street, where the music is played for listening and the crowd is half local. The Bywater, further downriver, is quieter again, with its own slow bars and the river bend at its back. You stay here to feel like you live here.
Getting around
Frenchmen Street's clubs sit at the Quarter end of the Marigny; Jackson Square is a few blocks' walk, and the CBD beyond it is walkable in daylight and a short taxi ride after the music ends. Boutique hotels and guesthouses are the pattern here rather than big hotels, and rooms go quickly on festival weekends.
Names to know
Long-established hotels in this area, checked on their own official sites. We do not rank them and we state no prices. Where Trip.com sells the property, the card carries a Check availability button to that hotel's page there; a card with no button is one Trip.com does not sell, and it carries no link at all.
Hotel Peter & Paul
A 71-room boutique hotel steps from Frenchmen Street, made from the Marigny's former schoolhouse, rectory and convent buildings.
