About this place

Few cities are identified by a single building the way New Orleans is by this one. The present church dates to 1850, on a site where a cathedral has stood since the 1720s, and it is still a working parish church, so visits fit around Masses, weddings and funerals. Step inside for the murals and the quiet, then look back at the square from the steps.
